Neighborhood Paving Guidance
The 21 townships of Kent County cost-share with KCRC to fund local road improvements, including reconstruction, resurfacing and pavement preservation. Therefore, local road improvement strategies are tailored to meet the available resources and specific needs of each township.
The following is basic information relating to pavement projects along local roads or within neighborhoods.
Property Access: Access to residences will be maintained during the project.
- For projects that include milling (removing) of current pavement: gravel ramps to driveways may be removed for brief periods during paving operations. These restricted periods will be kept to a minimum.
- If property owners require access in or out of a driveway during paving operations, they are asked to consult with an on-site contractor or inspector who can assist with access.
- If the property owner has a sprinkler system, invisible fence or other private underground lines within three (3) feet of the road, it is the property owner’s responsibility to flag or stake the area.
- When possible, every attempt will be made not to harm the marked assets.
- Ultimately, any damage to property owner-placed underground lines or utilities will be the responsibility of the individual who owns the system.
- Property owners are asked to turn off sprinkler zones that abut the road for the project’s duration.
- Work may be conducted anytime Monday through Saturday, from approximately 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Occasional Sunday work also may be required to complete the project within the contracted time fame.
- KCRC will make every effort to post yard signs prior to the start of the project stating, “Please Do Not Park on Roads.” Once these signs are posted, the project will commence within approximately 48 hours.
- Factors like weather, equipment issues or simultaneous projects can impact the timing of work. Therefore, an “exact” day-to-day schedule cannot be provided.
