KCRC is currently seeking to fill the following positions:

Equipment Service Mechanic

Kent County Road Commission is currently accepting applications for second-shift mechanic positions. This technically advanced position performs a wide range of repairs, maintenance and fabrication activities on fleet and equipment; including diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing engine, transmission and differential assemblies; repairing/rebuilding small equipment such as tractors, power mowers and chain saws; and performing routine preventative maintenance and inspection activities.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent with additional relevant vocational training; possession of a valid Michigan Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an “N” (Tank) endorsement or ability to acquire one; and successful completion of a physical examination and substance abuse test. An Associate’s Degree in Diesel Technology is preferred.

Survey Party Chief

Kent County Road Commission is currently accepting applications for a Survey Party Chief. This leadership position assists in the dispatch and prioritization of preliminary surveys of roads and bridges, provides grade and alignment controls in road construction of primary and local roads, and is responsible for staff development and oversight of 2-3 survey crews.

Requirements include an associate’s degree in the field of land surveying and/or civil engineering with a minimum of 10 years’ experience with topographical surveys and construction staking. A broad knowledge of modern survey equipment and survey methods along with proficient use of GPS, Robotic Total Station or Total Station are also essential. The ideal candidate must be experienced in reading and interpreting road and bridge plans and possess the skill to communicate effectively with KCRC staff as well as with contractors, site inspectors, property owners and businesses.
