Adopt-A-Road

What is Adopt-A-Road?

Adopt-A-Road is a program sponsored by the KCRC. We at the Road Commission are concerned about our environment. With your help we can clean up road side debris.

What roads are in the program?

Most primary and paved secondary roads are in the program. There are some primary roads that are excluded because of the dense populous.

Who can Participate?

Any group with (7) or more persons. Group participants must have a minimum of one adult for every (3) persons under the age of 16.

How do I sign up?

Permit applications are taken annually from January 1st until March 1st. Duplicate applications will be awarded on a first come basis.

Why do I need a permit?

The permit helps us track which roads have been adopted. It also enables us to keep a data base for informational mailing. We ask that your group inform us of changes of contact person.

Is there a cost?

No, there is no initial cost. The Road Commission will supply the initial set of signs recognizing your group's participation in the program. Any signs damaged, defaced or destroyed may be replaced at the groups expense. The initial set of required orange vests will also be provided by the KCRC. Thereafter, the adopting group shall replace the vests at its own expense.

How often do I clean the road?

Pick-up dates are scheduled for (3) times a year. The Road Commission will assign the dates each spring. Any group failing to participate in trash pickup for (2) periods of the year will have their permit revoked.

What if we want to clean our section more often?

The Road Commission encourages all participants to take pride in their adopted stretch of road. However the trash accumulated in additional pickup dates must be disposed of at the groups expense.

How long is the permit good?

The permit expires after 6 years. Groups may then reapply for a new section of road or wait a year and reapply for the same section (this gives different groups the opportunity to apply for popular sections of roads).

Where do I get the trash bags?

Bags are available at the Central, North & South garages March-September.

What if I need more information?

You can call the Road Commission Permit Department Monday -Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00. Our phone number is (616) 242-6920. Use this number also for changing your contact person or to cancel you permit.
