28th Street and Kraft Avenue

August 21 - October 31, 2017

The project will consist of widening the north side of 28th Street east and west of Kraft Avenue to provide for a dual left-turn lane on 28th Street and right-turn lane extension west of Kraft Avenue.  Kraft Avenue will be widened north and south of 28th Street to accommodate dual left turns off 28th Street and provide dual through movements on Kraft Avenue north and south of 28th Street.  The existing traffic signal will also be upgraded to accommodate for the new lanes.

Phase of Construction:

Phase 1 will consist of widening the west side of Kraft Avenue, north (to the right in/out driveway of Consumers Credit Union) and south of 28th Street (opposite the north side of Coach Road) and widening the north side of 28th Street west of Kraft Avenue (across the frontage of Meijer).  Traffic signal work will begin the week of August 21, and removal and excavation will begin the week of August 28.

Phase 2 will consist of widening the east side of Kraft Avenue north of 28th Street (up to O’Neill’s driveway) and widening the north side of 28th Street east of Kraft Avenue (to Gordon Food Service’s driveway).

Phase 3 will consist of cold milling and resurfacing the top course of asphalt pavement through the 28th Street & Kraft Avenue intersection: 28th Street east of Kraft to the Gordon Food Service’s driveway; Kraft Avenue north to the right in/out driveway at Consumers Credit Union; and south of 28th Street to opposite the north side of Coach Road. This work will be done by utilizing lane closures, while maintaining two-way traffic at all times.

Traffic Control:

The widening of 28th Street and Kraft Avenue will phased to maintain two lanes of traffic in each direction at all times during construction, in addition to left turn lanes.
