With winter just around the corner, we’re urging residents to give their mailbox an aggressive shake; if the mailbox moves, it most likely needs maintenance to withstand the winter season and storm response efforts.
Should an agency be compromised by COVID-19, neighboring agencies would assist during storm response efforts to ensure that the region’s main transportation arteries -- the highest volume, highest speed roads -- are cleared first.

KCRC crews are trained and ready to respond to winter storms, and drivers can do a lot to help keep both you and our drivers safe.
With muddy conditions and frost coming out of the ground, grading can actually worsen road conditions rather than improve them.

With the winter season approaching, KCRC wants children playing outside to stay safe when plow trucks are on the road. KCRC drivers have produced a short video to remind families of the tips that will help kids “Play It Safe” throughout winter.
Kent County Road Commission is accepting applications for the Maintenance and Equipment Divisions. Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. Wages range from $12-$14/hour; some nights and weekends may be required.
Beginning Wednesday, March 28 at 6 a.m., seasonal weight and speed restrictions will be LIFTED by 8 local agencies including KCRC.
Beginning February 13 at 6 a.m these agencies REINSTATE ENFORCEMENT of Seasonal Weight and Speed Restrictions:
Kent, Allegan, Barry,Ionia and Muskegon county road commissions and the cities of Kentwood and Walker.
Beginning Wednesday, February 1 at 6 a.m., the following local agencies will TEMPORARILY SUSPEND ENFORCEMENT of Seasonal Weight and Speed Restrictions until further notice: Kent, Barry, Ionia, Montcalm and Ottawa County Road Commissions and the cities of Kentwood and Walker. The temporary suspension of enforcement is based on the current forecast of decreasing temperatures and frost levels.
KCRC investigates each complaint regarding a mailbox damaged during snow removal. If an inspection shows that the mailbox was hit by a plow or other KCRC equipment, KCRC will replace the mailbox.
KCRC maintenance crews work hard to keep county and state roads drivable through the changing conditions of Michigan winters. The intensity, timing and duration of each winter event is different and response is adapted to address variables including type of precipitation, air and pavement temperature, traffic, wind, and time of day.
To promote enhanced safety during storm response and other road maintenance efforts, KCRC joins state, county and municipal transportation agencies throughout the state in installing green strobe lights on road maintenance vehicles.
