Construction on state and interstate highways and trunklines is within the jurisdiction of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), not the Kent County Road Commission.

Information regarding lane and road closures that correspond to work conducted by KCRC and our contractors. This list is updated Monday through Friday.

10 Mile Road (at Belmont Avenue)

Schedule Date: May 9 - May 18, 2018

Location Detail: just east and west of Belmont Avenue

The existing traffic signal at 10 Mile Road and Belmont Avenue will be removed and a concrete median divider will be constructed on 10 Mile Road to deter left-hand turns onto Belmont Avenue. Those seeking to make a left-hand turn from 10 Mile Road should now use the newly completed Belmont Bypass.

10 Mile Road (COMPLETE)

Schedule Date: May 7 - September 18, 2018

Location Detail: Alpine Avenue to Pine Island Drive

Reconstruct to 2-lane all season road standard. Work includes tree removal, earthwork, valley gutter, ditches, storm sewer, culvert replacement, HMA Pavement, pavement markings and restoration.This project will include widening and curb improvements at Vinton, Division, and Krupp avenues.

100th Street (proposed)

Schedule Date: 2019 Construction Season

Location Detail: 1000 feet east of Eastern Avenue to Kalamazoo Avenue

This proposed reconstruction project includes upgrading 100th Street to an all season road. Work includes tree removal, earthwork, shoulder widening, ditch work, culvert work, grading, sand subbase, aggregate base, asphalt paving, pavement markings and restoration.

A Project Information Open House is scheduled for Monday, December 17 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Gaines Charter Township Hall (lower level), located at 8555 Kalamazoo Avenue, Caledonia, Ml 49316. There is no planned presentation; therefore, those interested may arrive anytime between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

100th Street Bridge (MDOT - Emergency Repair)

Schedule Date: April 23 - May 23, 2018

Location Detail: Over US-131

100th Street Bridge is under the jurisdiction of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), not KCRC.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin emergency construction on the 100th Street Bridge over US-131 in Byron Township tomorrow, Monday, April 23 at 7PM - the bridge will remain closed to traffic through June 1.

The detour routes include:

EB 100th Street Detour: SB US-131 to 142nd Street to NB US-131 to EB 100thStreet

WB 100th Street Detour: NB US-131 to 84th Street to SB US-131 to WB 100th Street

The bridge was damaged when two semi-trucks with over-height shipping containers struck the overpass - this emergency repair project will restore two-way traffic.

MDOT has tentatively scheduled to replace and upgrade the bridge in 2020.

13 Mile Road (COMPLETE)

Schedule Date: July 23 - November 14, 2018 (open to traffic) May 2019 (final restoration)

Location Detail: Kenowa Avenue to Peach Ridge Avenue

Reconstruct to 2-lane all season road standard. Work includes tree removal, earthwork, valley gutter, ditches, drainage, culvert extensions, HMA pavement, pavement markings and restoration. This project will be completed in three phases and closed to through traffic with a posted detour. Local traffic will be maintained for property owners and emergency vehicles.

13 Mile Road (Culvert)

Schedule Date: August 28 - October 31, 2018

Location Detail: Fruit Ridge Avenue to Peach Ridge Avenue

13 Mile Rd from Fruit Ridge Ave to Peach Ridge Ave has daytime lane closures for culvert work.

14 Mile Road

Schedule Date: April 30 - May 11, 2018

Location Detail: Lymburner Avenue to Pine Island Drive

Project: ​Crush & shape, repave

16 Mile Road

Schedule Date: Completion: October 2018

Location Detail: Keller Avenue to Harvard Avenue

The proposed improvement of 1.01 miles of 16 Mile Road from Keller Avenue to Harvard Avenue in Section 6 of Oakfield Township and Section 31 of Spencer Township includes necessary tree removal, grading, drainage, subbase, aggregate base and construction to provide for a 30-foot width roadway with HMA surfacing.

18 Mile Road (COMPLETE)

Schedule Date: August 6 - August 25, 2018

Location Detail: Wabasis Avenue to Meddler Avenue

Project will include cold milling then a full Crush & Shape, repaved with 3.5" of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA).

30th Street (COMPLETE)

Schedule Date: August 16 - September 7, 2018

Location Detail: Wycliffe Drive to Buttrick Avenue

This is a crush & shape project: a structural pavement treatment that grinds, or crushes, the existing asphalt and 1-2” of underlying gravel. The material is then regraded, compacted and covered with three and a half inches of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA).

4 Mile Road (COMPLETE)

Schedule Date: October 8 - November 1, 2018

Location Detail: Egypt Valley to .25 miles west

Road closed to through traffic for road construction.

48th Street

Schedule Date: April 12 - May 25, 2018

Location Detail: East of Thornapple River Drive

The north side of the road approaching Thornapple River Drive is being widened to provide westbound to northbound right-turn lane. Road is being completed with shoulder closures.

60th Street (Utility Work) (COMPLETED)

Schedule Date: April 9 - July 31, 2018

Location Detail: Burlingame Avenue and Clyde Park Avenue

Work includes extending sanitary sewer and watermain within 60th Street right-of-way from 100 feet east of Burlingame Avenue to 700 feet east of Burlingame Avenue. Disturbed portion of 60th Street will be reconstructed to all-season.

60th Street (west of Broadmoor Avenue) -(COMPLETE)

Schedule Date: September 26 - October 31, 2018

Location Detail: West of Broadmoor Avenue

Project consists of adding right turn lane on northbound Patterson Avenue south of 60th Street and an additional right turn lane on eastbound 60th Street west of Broadmoor Avenue.

Traffic: Right lane closure at 60th Street west of Broadmoor Avenue; traffic maintained
Contractor: Miller Brothers Construction 

64th Street (Complete)

Schedule Date: August 13 - October 12, 2018

Location Detail: Burlingame Avenue and Woodspointe Drive

Closed for sanitary sewer work and a crush, shape and repave.

68th Street (West of Broadmoor Avenue) (COMPLETE)

Schedule Date: September 26 - November 8, 2018

Location Detail: West of Broadmoor Avenue

Project consists of adding an additional right turn lane on eastbound 68th Street west of Broadmoor Avenue.
Traffic: Lane closures; two-way traffic maintained
Contractor: Miller Brothers Construction

68th Street at Madison Avenue (Proposed)

Location Detail: Traffic Signal Project

Modify and upgrade existing traffic signal, with box span configuration, LED signal heads, backplates and updated detection.

68th Street at Patterson Avenue (COMPLETE)

Schedule Date: September 17 - November 9, 2018

Location Detail: East and West of Patterson Avenue

Widening 68th Street west and east of Patterson Avenue for additional (dual) eastbound to northbound left-turn lanes. Work will be completed using lane closures.

68th Street Bridge over the Thornapple River (Completed)

Schedule Date: June 12 – July 25, 2018

The project includes bridge deck latex concrete resurfacing, hydro demolition, bridge joint replacement and approach work.

7 Mile Road (COMPLETE)

72nd Street (COMPLETE)

Location Detail: Ivanrest to Byron Center Avenue

Ivanrest to Byron Center (Crush & Shape)

  • Crush & Shape is a structural pavement treatment that grinds, or crushes, the existing asphalt and 1-2” of underlying gravel. The material is then regraded, compacted and covered with multiple layers of paver-placed hot asphalt.

72nd Street (COMPLETE)

Schedule Date: October 29 - November 9, 2018

Location Detail: Byron Center Avenue to Burlingame Avenue

During this resurfacing project, the existing asphalt surface layer will be milled out and replaced with two courses of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), a total of 3.5 inches thick. Traffic will be closed to through traffic with a detour posted. (Traffic detoured to 68th Street)

76th Street

Schedule Date: August 20 - August 24, 2018

Location Detail: East of Clyde Park Avenue to west side of US-131

The mill and fill project includes cold-milling the existing asphalt 5 inches deep in the 5-lane section of 76th Street and 1.5 inches deep in the 4-lane portion and placing new asphalt paving and pavement markings.  The work will be phased to maintain 2-way traffic on 76th Street at all times.

Location Detail: West of US-131 to 300 ft east of Clyde Park Ave

Project: ​Mill & Fill and Resurfacing

Mill & Fill is a structural pavement treatment that involves the removal of the existing surface layer - and in some cases the entire asphalt pavement thickness - with a milling machine and the replacement of the milled location with new asphalt. This process is used when a surface has deteriorated to poor condition and surrounding grades (i.e. curbs, driveways) must be met.

76th Street (Proposed)

Schedule Date: 2019 Construction Season

Location Detail: Clyde Park Avenue and Gordon Industrial Drive

The proposed project includes the widening of 76th Street to five lanes between Clyde Park Avenue and Gordon Industrial Drive during 2019. Work includes road, bridge and railroad crossing widening, steel piling, precast bridge segments, sand subbase, aggregate base, concrete curb and gutter, asphalt paving, pavement markings and restoration.

A Project Information Open House has been scheduled on December 13, 2018 between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at Byron Township Hall located at 8085 Byron Center Avenue in Byron Center. There is  no planned  presentation;  therefore, those interested may arrive anytime between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

82nd Street (COMPLETE)

Schedule Date: July 31 - August 31, 2018

Location Detail: Kenowa Avenue and Wilson Avenue

Project: Crush & Shape

Crush & Shape is a structural pavement treatment that grinds, or crushes, the existing asphalt and 1-2” of underlying gravel. The material is then regraded, compacted and covered with multiple layers of paver-placed hot asphalt.

Ada Drive (COMPLETE)

Schedule Date: October 26 - November 8, 2018

Location Detail: Bronson Street to Headley Street

Concrete curb & gutter modifications on Ada Drive between Bronson and Headley to delineate parking areas, concrete cross-walks and brick paver parkways. Ada Drive westbound detoured to Fulton Street west to Spaulding and south to Ada Drive. Ada Drive eastbound traffic will be maintained.

Algoma Bridge #52 (Proposed)

Schedule Date: TBD

Location Detail: 10 Mile Road over the Rogue River

Preventative maintenance project including expansion joint replacement and box beam repair.

Alpenhorn Drive

Schedule Date: July 2 - October 26, 2018

Location Detail: .2 miles south of Lamoreaux Drive

Replacement of CMP culvert with a precast concrete box culvert. Bridge will be closed to all traffic - including pedastrian traffic - for the duration of the project.

Alta Dale Avenue

Schedule Date: August 7 - August 12, 2017

Location Detail: M-21 to Grand River Drive

Mill & Fill is a structural pavement treatment that involves the removal of the existing surface layer - and in some cases the entire asphalt pavement thickness - with a milling machine and the replacement of the milled location with new asphalt. Argo Street

Belmont Avenue

Belmont Bypass

Schedule Date: Completed May 4, 2018

Location Detail: South of 10 Mile Road

A new road is being constructed from 10 Mile Road and Thrifty Drive, south and west, to Belmont Avenue. Belmont Avenue is being widened from Graphic Drive south approximately 500 feet.Construction of new all season road will divert 10 Mile & Belmont Avenue left turns to the signalized intersection at the Meijer Entrance on 10 Mile Road. This project will provide for a three-lane roadway, with one lane in each direction and a center turn lane.
